Finian's Rainbow, by Burton Lane and E.Y. Harburg, first opened on Broadway in 1947 when it ran for 725 performances. It could be described as a musical fantasy with political overtones as the storyline involves, among other things, a leprechaun, a crock of gold and a racist Southern senator.
Finian, a whimsically naive Irish immigrant living in Rainbow Valley, Missitucky, somewhere near Fort Knox, beleives that America's riches have blossomed because of the country's burried gold, underground at Fort Knox. He hopes to reap similar riches for himself by planting a crock of gold he has stolen from a leprechaun. But the leprechaun is on his trail.
Venue: Clydebank Town Hall
Run: 19 March 1986 - 22 March 1986
