Sidney Kidd, ruthless editor of Spy Magazine, is out for the scoop of the century, the wedding of society belle, Tracy Lord, to the respectable but somewhat uninspiring George Kittredge. To secure this exclusive, Kidd will stop at nothing even if it means dishing the dirt on Tracy's father, Seth, and his illicit relationship with exotic dancer Tina Mara. Central to this plot is Tracy's ex-husband, C. K. Dexter Haven, whose task is to introduce into the Lord household two Spy Magazine reporters, Mike Connor and Liz Imbrie. The temperature rises as the big day approaches and, in the midst of the soaring passions and mounting tensions, old flames are rekindled.
